Reagan’s GOP Blog: Way Way Off Mark

The blog Reagan’s GOP has a post here titled “Reagan fighting for Democracy.”

My first thought was, “why would someone who loved liberty as much as Reagan did be fighting for a form of government as tyrannical and oppressive as a democracy?”

But after I started reading the blog I realized that the objective of the author, whether he/she will admit it or not, is to promote the American Empire.

For someone who loves liberty such as I, and for someone who actually understands the form of government given to us by the founders, which, by the way, was not a democracy, but a republic, it hurts when I read articles like this, especially by so-called conservatives, because I realize that the US has transcended from a once-great Republic to a slowly dying Empire. And we are in our final stages, folks, unless we immediately change course.

It is said that as Ben Franklin was leaving the constitutional convention a group of concerned individuals approached him and asked him what form of government they had given us. He replied, “A Republic — if you can keep it.”

Unfortunately, we haven’t kept it, and post like the aforementioned blog point that out. And that’s very obvious by the following sentence:

“He [Reagan] saw that America only remained free if we helped others gain freedom.”

This is a complete slap not only in the face of our supposed to be constitutional republic but also to our founders and those who fought and died so that we could secure our independence from the British Empire.

The founders were very clear that the US should maintain a very humble, non-interventionist foreign policy.

It was Thomas Jefferson who, in his 1801 inaugural address that urged “Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations — entangling alliances with none.” And it was none other than George Washington that stated that we should “Act for ourselves and not for others,” by forming an “American character wholly free of foreign attachments.”

And not to mention the fact that since we’ve been “helping” other nations gain so-called “freedom,” that we have completely lost our individual liberty here in the good ole USA.
